for Microsoft Blend for Visual Studio
When creating a new application, fit and finish should be integrated as part of the workflow. Maintaining consistent alignment across objects within an app has always been a challenge for Visual Studio developers.
To help solve for this need, I led feature enhancements, including dynamic rulers and guides to facilitate pixel perfect layouts by easily creating guidelines across workspaces. Dynamic guidelines are easily created from a new layout and customizable ruler, providing real time position and snap point information. The guides also snap beyond pixels within an object's border line, making layout arrangement more precise no matter how the object border lines were created.
IMPROVE FIT AND FINISH OF VISUAL STUDIO APPLICATIONS BY EASILY CREATING CONSISTENT ALIGNMENT ACROSS LAYOUT ELEMENTS.
When creating an application, elements can be deeply nested into a template control, apps must support multiple resolutions and form factors, and information about positioning is not as easily discoverable.
I pitched this feature and worked closely with stakeholders in planning requirements, ideation, and user flows. Based on user research and surveys, I created prototypes and worked closely with engineers during and after implementation process.
Dynamic Rulers and Guides was one of the most prominent designer tool feature for Microsoft Blend for Visual Studio. It introduced received a patent for Dynamic Alteration of Guides Based on Resolution Changes
